Four years ago, Ricky Mena had a life-changing dream where he was the neighborhood superhero for kids in need. When he woke up from his sleepy trance, he was determined to turn this vision into a reality.
Soon after, he started Heart of a Hero to “inspire, motivate and empower children who need it the most.” Decked out in an authentic Spider-Man outfit, he and his team visit homeless children, kids with special needs, foster children and those with life-threatening illnesses. Since October 2014, Spidey and his superhero friends have paid visits to nearly 11,000 kids.
Image: Heart of a Hero Inc.Mena works hard to ensure each visit is unique. When Spider-Man makes his big debut to the child, he also comes bearing gifts like masks, toys, blankets, pillows, coloring books, crayons, honorary hero medals and other treats.
