What causes constipation in children

Constipation is a common problem in daily life, and many adults suffer from the torment of constipation, even requiring certain treatments to alleviate it. And sometimes babies may also experience constipation, with very dry stool and difficulty in excretion. Watching the baby's face turn red during defecation, parents are very worried. So, what are the reasons why children often suffer from constipation?

What causes constipation in children1

Constipation in children is often due to insufficient gastrointestinal function. Many babies are prone to constipation, with 95% of it being functional, which means their digestive and defecation abilities are not very good. Especially after starting to eat complementary foods, there will be a lot of food residue, and if they don't drink water regularly, their stool will become dry. If a baby's intestinal peristalsis ability is insufficient, constipation may occur.

To reduce constipation in babies, parents should give their children more water and maintain a certain amount of water every day. It is also important to provide babies with foods that are high in crude fiber, such as fruits like bananas and oranges, vegetables like carrots and spinach, and avoid eating too many dry biscuits and foods that are prone to overheating. Proper feeding of probiotics is recommended, and babies should not rely too much on medication to promote bowel movements. Efforts should be made to cultivate good bowel habits in babies.

If the baby's constipation repeatedly occurs and is severe, they should also be careful of pathological problems such as intussusception and megacolon, and take the baby for examination and active treatment.
