Iodine deficiency disease (IDD) is a series of damages caused by the low iodine content in plants and grains due to the lack of iodine in water and soil in the natural environment, resulting in insufficient iodine intake in the body. It is the most widely distributed and invasive endemic disease in the world. Iodine is an important trace element that affects intellectual development. However, in real life, people lack knowledge about the hazards and prevention of iodine deficiency. Therefore, popularizing disease prevention knowledge, improving self-care awareness, and strengthening publicity and education are urgent tasks in the current work of eliminating iodine deficiency diseases. Therefore, China proposes to designate May 15th as the National Day for the Prevention and Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders, in order to increase publicity and raise people's awareness of iodine deficiency disorders.
