Women should have their IUD inserted a few days before their menstrual cycle

For some women who have no plans to conceive in a short period of time or do not have fertility requirements, in order to prevent unintended pregnancy, placing an intrauterine device (IUD) in the uterus can be used for contraception. IUD is a long-term effective and relatively safe contraceptive measure. Regarding the issue of IUD placement, some women want to know how many days before menstruation do women need to insert an IUD?

The best time for women to use an intrauterine device (IUD) is within three to seven days after the end of their menstrual cycle, as the endometrium is relatively thin at this time, and the stimulation to the endometrium during IUD placement is relatively small, resulting in less damage and reducing bleeding. However, before placing an IUD, it is recommended to undergo a routine vaginal discharge examination to determine if there is any inflammation. If there is inflammation, it needs to be cured before the IUD can be used.

After women have an intrauterine device (IUD), they must pay attention to resting for two days and observe the bleeding situation more often. A small amount of bleeding is normal, but if the bleeding is large and lasts for a long time, it is necessary to seek medical attention in a timely manner. Sexual activity is prohibited within two weeks. On the one hand, it prevents intense sexual activity from causing the IUD to fall off, which may lead to abnormal contraception. On the other hand, it avoids external bacteria and viruses from entering the vagina, increasing the risk of infection and inflammation.

After placing an intrauterine device (IUD), regular check ups are necessary. The first two check ups should be scheduled in the first month and six months after placement. If there are no issues, an annual check is sufficient thereafter. The IUD has a specified expiration date, and usually needs to be removed and replaced at the hospital when it is about to expire. If the expiration date is exceeded, it may cause certain harm and side effects, and even affect future pregnancy. Women can choose to remove the IUD within three to seven days after their menstrual period is clean.
