Will the HCG value be low in ectopic pregnancy

Hcg can reflect whether a woman is pregnant or not, and can also indicate to doctors whether the pregnant woman is in an intrauterine pregnancy or an ectopic pregnancy. After pregnancy, the first thing to confirm is that the fetus is in an intrauterine pregnancy, otherwise it will have a very adverse effect on the woman. So, will the HCG value of ectopic pregnancy be low?

The HCG level in ectopic pregnancy will be lower than that in intrauterine pregnancy. When measuring blood HCG continuously, if the doubling time exceeds 7 days, the possibility of ectopic pregnancy is higher. If the doubling time is less than 14 days, the possibility of ectopic pregnancy is very small.

After miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy rupture, diagnosis is generally not difficult. If there are difficulties in diagnosis, close observation of changes in the condition is necessary. If vaginal bleeding continues and accompanied by worsening abdominal pain, increased pelvic fluid accumulation, and a decreasing trend in hemoglobin, it can help diagnose the presence of ectopic use. The following diagnostic methods can also be used:

  1. Determination of progesterone: The determination of serum progesterone helps to determine the development of normal pregnancy embryos. During ectopic pregnancy, serum progesterone levels are very low, typically between 10-25ng/ml. If the serum progesterone level is 25ng/ml, the ectopic pregnancy rate is less than 1.5%. If the value is 5ng/ml, intrauterine abortion or ectopic pregnancy should be considered.

  2. B-ultrasound examination: If the intrauterine probe and hypoechoic area are abnormal, ectopic pregnancy can be diagnosed. Combining blood HCG and ultrasound examination is very helpful for the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy. When the blood HCG is 2000IU/L, vaginal ultrasound shows no intrauterine gestational sac, and the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy can be basically confirmed.
