Will fetal lateral ventricular width affect the future

During pregnancy, women can understand whether there are any abnormalities in fetal intrauterine development through various prenatal examinations. For example, some pregnant women may find that the fetal lateral ventricle is wide during prenatal examinations, which can make expectant mothers very worried. So, will fetal lateral ventricular width affect the future?

Will fetal lateral ventricular width affect the future1

  1. Pregnant women should undergo prenatal check ups to determine whether signs of fetal lateral ventricle widening have any impact on the future, and the specific results of the examination should be used to make a judgment. The normal width of the fetal lateral brain should be less than 1 centimeter. If the test result is greater than 1 centimeter, it is called lateral ventricular widening. If the width of the fetal lateral ventricle is greater than 1 centimeter and less than 1.5 centimeters, it is considered mild widening. If it is greater than 1.5 centimeters, it is considered severe widening.

  2. Lateral ventricular widening can be divided into isolated ventricular widening and non isolated ventricular widening. The phenomenon of isolated fetal lateral ventricular widening alone usually subsides on its own during subsequent development, and generally does not require any self treatment, nor does it affect the health of the fetus in the future.

  3. Non isolated ventricular widening, as well as ventricular widening exceeding 1.5 centimeters during examination, should be emphasized in subsequent prenatal check ups, which should be repeated for two consecutive weeks. If there is a significant decrease or no increase in the numerical changes within two weeks, it may be considered to continue observation.

  4. If it is found during subsequent follow-up that the fetal lateral ventricle has widened by more than 1.5 centimeters and multiple examinations have confirmed that the range of hydrocephalus continues to increase, the results of such examinations suggest a high possibility of congenital malformations and hydrocephalus in the fetus. It is necessary to consider following the doctor's guidance and taking necessary measures to deal with it.
