Why do you have frequent contractions after five and a half months1

The uterine contractions that occur during pregnancy are not actually those that occur during childbirth. These contractions are pseudo contractions, which do not cause cervical canal shortening or dilation of the cervix. Pseudo contractions do not cause premature birth or childbirth. In fact, pseudo contractions have already appeared after 12 weeks of pregnancy, and only some sensitive pregnant women can feel them. Therefore, the occurrence of uterine contractions at five and a half months of pregnancy is a normal physiological phenomenon, and pregnant women do not need to worry too much.

The symptoms of pseudocontractions may vary depending on the time of pregnancy, and are medically divided into three time periods: mid to late pregnancy, pre delivery, and pre delivery. As long as pregnant women maintain a certain movement for a long time, such as standing or sitting for a long time, they will feel a tight and hard pseudocontractions in the abdomen. In the weeks before delivery, pregnant women can feel irregular pseudocontractions becoming more frequent, but this type of contractions is still short-lived and weak, limited to the lower part of the uterus.

Due to the traction stimulation caused by the descent of the fetal head in the lower segment of the uterus before delivery, the occurrence of false contractions will become more and more frequent. When symptoms of contractions appear, pregnant women only need to lie down immediately, regulate their emotions, repeat deep breathing to relax the abdomen, and for a period of time, they can be relieved. However, pregnant women should pay attention that if false contractions occur too frequently or the degree of contractions increases before giving birth, they should seek medical treatment at the hospital as soon as possible.
