What to ask when doing four-dimensional ultrasound

Many pregnant women will undergo examinations after a period of pregnancy to see if their baby is growing healthily in their belly. If any abnormal conditions occur, timely treatment can also be sought. Doing four-dimensional ultrasound is an essential part of prenatal examination, but little is known about it. So, what should be asked when doing four-dimensional ultrasound?

What to ask when doing four-dimensional ultrasound1

When doing 4D ultrasound, it is necessary to understand:

  1. Four dimensional ultrasound does not require holding urine or fasting. Pregnant women need to go to the hospital for examination within the prescribed time.

  2. Before undergoing a 4D ultrasound examination, it is advisable for pregnant women to wear their tops and pants separately. In the examination of four-dimensional color ultrasound, doctors mainly use examination instruments to examine the current facial development of the fetus, as well as whether there are developmental defects in the heart, brain, spine, etc. If abnormalities are found in the fetus during the examination, the examination time may be relatively longer.

  3. Due to the limitations of ultrasound technology, it is not possible to detect all fetal abnormalities during fetal examination, resulting in an ultrasound diagnostic accuracy rate that cannot reach 100%.

  4. Soft tissues such as ears, gender, genitalia, and mandibular arch are not within the scope of fetal ultrasound examination.

  5. The fetal limb examination does not include the number of phalanges and toe bones, and the fetal four chamber heart examination can only exclude 50% -60% of congenital heart disease.
