What is included in obstetric examination

Women need to undergo multiple prenatal examinations throughout their entire pregnancy, and each has its own targeted examination items based on the gestational age. Some women are experiencing their first pregnancy, so they are not very familiar with prenatal checkups. So, what are the prenatal check ups for women after pregnancy?

What is included in obstetric examination1

  1. There are significant differences in prenatal examinations performed by women at different stages of pregnancy. In the early stage of pregnancy after three months, the main tests should be urine routine, blood routine, liver and kidney function examination, coagulation function examination, thyroid function examination, and NT examination. Through these multiple tests, the mother's condition and early fetal development can be understood whether they are normal.

  2. Pregnant women entering around 16 weeks of pregnancy should undergo abdominal ultrasound examination and Down syndrome screening to rule out the high risk of Down syndrome in the fetus. If pregnant women experience other discomforts, targeted prenatal examinations such as urine tests, blood tests, electrocardiograms, and cardiopulmonary function tests should also be performed.

  3. Women at 24 weeks of pregnancy need to undergo three-dimensional or four-dimensional color ultrasound to check for fetal abnormalities. When a pregnant woman is about 28 weeks pregnant, she should have a glucose tolerance test to rule out whether she has gestational diabetes. After entering 35 weeks of pregnancy, it is necessary to strengthen prenatal check ups. In addition to basic routine examination items, fetal electrocardiogram monitoring should be added to understand whether the fetus has any abnormal conditions such as ischemia and hypoxia in the uterine cavity.
