What does marginal placenta mean1

Marginal placenta is one type of placenta previa. Marginal placenta refers to the condition where the placenta is attached to the lower part of the uterus and touches the cervical opening between 20 and 32 weeks of pregnancy. If the placenta is less than 5 centimeters away from the cervical opening but has not yet crossed it, it can be considered as a marginal placenta. If the placenta can ascend before 28 weeks and the placenta is more than 5 centimeters away from the cervical opening, the problem is not significant.

If the placenta still does not rise after 28 weeks, it should be taken seriously because marginal placenta does not rule out the possibility of miscarriage or premature birth. Therefore, expectant mothers need to pay more attention to bed rest, prohibit sexual activity, do not do strenuous household chores or intense exercise, eat more fresh vegetables and fruits in daily life, maintain smooth bowel movements, avoid constipation and increase abdominal pressure, and prevent symptoms such as uterine contractions and bleeding.

Once excessive uterine contractions or abdominal pain accompanied by vaginal bleeding are detected, it is necessary to seek medical examination in a timely manner and undergo treatment to preserve the fetus and suppress uterine contractions. If vaginal bleeding lasts for a long time, infection prevention treatment is also necessary. If successful, continuous bed rest and close observation are required until the fetus reaches 37 weeks and its physical development is basically mature, then delivery can be carried out immediately.
