What does a three month old baby's placenta look like1

The placenta of a three month old baby is disc-shaped and embedded in the uterine wall, with a thick center and thin edges. During female childbirth, the placenta will detach and be expelled from the uterus due to the contraction of the uterine muscle layer. The side of the placenta facing the amniotic cavity is smoother, while the other side is rougher. At three months of pregnancy, the placenta has just formed and is therefore relatively small. Women can use ultrasound examination to understand the condition of the placenta.

The placenta is an organ that understands the relationship between women and fetuses. When a fertilized egg in a woman divides into a blastocyst, the cells surrounding it form the placenta, and the internal cells gradually develop into a fetus. The nutrients required for fetal growth and development are supplied by women through the placenta, and the waste products metabolized by the fetus are also excreted through the placenta.

At around half a month of embryonic development, the placenta is mainly composed of villi that gradually form. Over time, the blood vessels in the villi establish the fetal placental cycle, and due to sufficient nutrition, the villi in contact with the sacrum develop well, also known as leaf shaped villi.
