What causes sweaty palms

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that normal sweating can regulate body temperature, eliminate waste from the body, and regulate the balance of yin and yang in the human body. When there is an imbalance between yin and yang in the human body and dysfunction of the organs, abnormal sweating may occur. So, traditional Chinese medicine often judges the condition of the body based on the time, location, amount, and characteristics of sweating. So, what is the reason for sweaty palms?

What causes sweaty palms1

Firstly, exclude whether it is caused by illness. In general, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, hypertension, congestive heart failure, hemiplegic spinal trauma, tumor, tuberculosis, etc. will lead to abnormal sweating, accompanied by obvious corresponding symptoms. In this case, it is necessary to control the condition in a timely manner, and then excessive sweating can be resolved. However, there are more cases of abnormal sweating without obvious disease symptoms, mainly divided into the following two categories:

  1. Divided by sweating time

Sweating excessively during the day. Regardless of winter or summer, when there is no activity or light activity during the day, one often sweats profusely. These people often have physical weakness, low speech volume, poor appetite, and susceptibility to colds, which are manifestations of qi deficiency.

Sweating at night. Sweating while sleeping and stopping when waking up is called night sweats in traditional Chinese medicine. These people often have symptoms such as hot hands and feet, restlessness, facial redness and fever, and dry mouth and throat, which are manifestations of yin deficiency.

  2. Classified by sweating area

One is excessive sweating on the head. If overeating leads to excessive sweating on the head and face, as well as feeling bloated, thirsty, and unwilling to eat, it is mostly due to overeating. This can be relieved by reducing food intake, eating a light diet, or taking some digestive medicine.

If accompanied by heaviness and weakness in the limbs, bloating and discomfort, vomiting, fever in the body, thick and yellow tongue coating, it is a manifestation of damp heat in the spleen and stomach, and attention should be paid to a light diet. In daily life, it is important to make reasonable adjustments and pay more attention to changes in one's body to avoid the above sweating symptoms. Additionally, it is important to pay attention to self-care methods and effectively manage oneself.
