Ectopic pregnancy is prone to recurrence, and there are many treatment methods available. So, what causes ectopic pregnancy?

What causes ectopic pregnancy1

There are several common factors that can cause ectopic pregnancy in daily life, including:

  1. Surgical procedures. Nowadays, the cesarean section rate is on the rise in clinical practice, and the incidence of ectopic pregnancy in uterine scars is also increasing. Meanwhile, appendicitis perforation is also one of the high-risk factors for ectopic pregnancy. Studies have shown that appendectomy increases the risk of ectopic pregnancy in women by 1.8 times.

  2. Infection of the reproductive tract. Common gynecological inflammations can cause ascending infection to the fallopian tubes, leading to tubal inflammation. After abortion, the fallopian tubes are also susceptible to bacterial infections, so women who undergo repeated abortions are more likely to experience ectopic pregnancy the more times they conceive.

  3. Improper use of contraceptive pills. Contraceptive pills can affect the levels of estrogen and progesterone in women's bodies, thereby affecting the peristalsis of the fallopian tube wall, secretion of epithelial cells, and ciliary activity. If these two hormones are imbalanced, it will affect the normal transport of fertilized eggs, leading to abnormal conditions of ectopic pregnancy.

  4. Smoking and excessive drinking. Nicotine and alcohol can also affect the cilia oscillation of the fallopian tubes, leading to ectopic pregnancy.
