The importance of the thyroid gland is self-evident. It is the largest secretory organ in the human body, and thyroid hormone is synthesized from it. With the continuous emergence of various diseases, the number of people suffering from thyroid related diseases is also increasing year by year. So what are the typical thyroid symptoms that men may experience? Let's all learn about it with me.
1. Hyperthyroidism. The nail shaped gland is in a high functional state, known as hyperthyroidism, characterized by thyroid enlargement, protruding eyes, increased basal metabolism, and dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system. This disease is more common in females, with a male to female ratio of 1:4-6. It is most common in individuals aged 20-40 and has a slow onset. The most common hyperthyroidism in clinical practice is toxic diffuse goiter.
2. Hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is a systemic disease caused by insufficient synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones or poor physiological effects of thyroid hormones. It is mainly divided into three types: juvenile hypothyroidism, juvenile hypothyroidism, and adult hypothyroidism, which are more common in middle-aged women. Hypothyroidism in adults is often caused by surgical resection, long-term treatment with anti thyroid drugs, or the use of radioactive 131 iodine to treat hyperthyroidism.
3. Thyroiditis. The typical manifestation is severe thyroid pain, which usually starts on one side of the thyroid gland and quickly spreads to other parts of the gland, ear roots, and jaw. It is often accompanied by general discomfort, fatigue, muscle pain, and may also have fever. It reaches its peak within 3-4 days after the disease and subsides within 1 week. Many patients also have a slow onset, lasting more than 1-2 weeks, with fluctuations in the condition lasting 3-6 weeks. After improvement, there may be multiple relapses within a few months. The thyroid gland may increase 2-3 times or more in volume compared to normal, with obvious tenderness upon contact. Within 1 week after the disease, about half of the patients will have symptoms of hyperthyroidism.
4. Thyroid nodules. A common thyroid disease, nodules on the thyroid gland may be thyroid cancer, thyroid tumor, nodular goiter, or other causes, collectively referred to as thyroid nodules until their nature is clarified. The clinical manifestation is thyroid enlargement, and multiple nodules of varying sizes can be seen. The texture of the nodules is mostly moderate hardness. There are not many clinical symptoms, only discomfort in the anterior neck area. Thyroid function is mostly normal. But some patients may experience secondary hyperfunction or cancer.
Thyroid diseases should not be taken lightly and must be given sufficient attention. In daily life, it is important to pay attention to a balanced diet and engage in appropriate physical exercise. The invasion of diseases is caused by low physical fitness, and strengthening physical exercise is very necessary. If you accidentally suffer from thyroid diseases, don't worry. It is important to follow the advice of professional doctors for professional treatment.
