What are the reasons for low and sparse menstrual blood volume

Menstruation is a normal physiological bleeding phenomenon in women, and it also has a regularity of onset with changes in the menstrual cycle, and the amount of menstrual blood should be roughly the same each time. However, some women may experience thin and light menstrual flow. So, what is the reason for the thin and light menstrual blood flow?

What are the reasons for low and sparse menstrual blood volume1

  1. Ovulation free menstruation. Women usually have less and thinner menstrual flow, which is more common as anovulatory menstruation. The main cause of anovulation is abnormal ovarian function in women, but menstruation may also occur. However, this type of menstrual flow and blood characteristics are different from normal menstrual flow. It belongs to the category of functional uterine bleeding, characterized by irregular bleeding time and often low blood volume.

  2. Congenital uterine dysplasia. If a woman has a small uterus or uterine malformation, it can lead to a smaller and thinner endometrial area in the uterine cavity, although changes in the ovarian cycle can also cause endometrial shedding and bleeding. However, due to poor uterine development, there is less shedding of the endometrium, resulting in less menstrual flow.

  3. Endocrine abnormalities. Abnormal endocrine function in women, or tumors in the endocrine system, can also cause abnormal hormone secretion in the body, while insufficient estrogen secretion can prevent physiological hyperplasia of the endometrium from reaching normal levels, resulting in reduced menstrual flow and thin menstrual blood.
