Under what circumstances is a cesarean section necessary

The common methods of delivery include vaginal delivery and cesarean section. Generally, if there are no special circumstances, most women will choose vaginal delivery. However, sometimes in case of unexpected situations, choosing cesarean section is safer and more appropriate. So, under what circumstances is cesarean section necessary?

Under what circumstances is a cesarean section necessary1

  1. Unable to give birth naturally. The time required for cervical dilation in women with their first child is relatively long. If cervical dilation is slow or stagnant during natural childbirth, the descent of the fetal head will be hindered. When natural childbirth cannot proceed normally, it will be converted to cesarean section.

  2. The previous pregnancy was a cesarean section. When a woman has a cesarean section for her first pregnancy and wants to have a vaginal delivery for her second, there is a high possibility of complications such as uterine rupture. The previously sutured uterine wound may rupture due to the inability to withstand severe uterine contractions, so a cesarean section should also be chosen in this case.

  3. Fetal distress. There are many reasons for fetal distress, such as placental dysfunction, hypertension during pregnancy, diabetes and other adverse diseases.

  4. The head basin does not match. Some women tend to be thin and relatively petite before pregnancy, which may result in a small pelvic bone and insufficient space for the fetus to be delivered smoothly. Therefore, a cesarean section is also necessary for delivery.
