The difference between Tang screening and non-invasive DNA

During pregnancy, there are some essential tests that women must undergo, such as Down syndrome screening, which is specifically designed to detect Down syndrome. However, there are several types of tests for Down syndrome, including amniocentesis and non-invasive DNA testing, in addition to Down screening. So, what is the difference between Tang screening and non-invasive DNA?

The difference between Tang screening and non-invasive DNA1

1、 Examination fee: Nowadays, Tang screening is free in some areas. After the pregnant woman establishes a health manual, she can undergo Tang screening examination for free. However, there are also some areas where fees are charged, ranging from two to three hundred yuan. The cost of non-invasive DNA is relatively high, around 2000 yuan.

2、 Accuracy: The accuracy of Down syndrome screening is about 70%, while the accuracy of non-invasive DNA testing can reach over 90%. After completing the Down syndrome screening, if the risk is shown to be low, there is no need for further examination. If the risk is high, amniocentesis examination is also necessary. The results of non-invasive DNA testing, although more accurate, cannot fully confirm the diagnosis.

3、 Different disease types detected: Tang screening and non-invasive DNA testing detect different diseases. Tang screening is used to check for Down syndrome, Trisomy syndrome, and neural tube abnormalities. Compared to Down syndrome screening, non-invasive DNA testing also includes the presence of Patao syndrome. That is to say, there are more non-invasive DNA testing items than Down syndrome screening.
