The difference between hysteroscopy and contrast imaging

Although hysteroscopy and contrast imaging are commonly used in clinical practice to examine some gynecological diseases, some women may not understand the doctor's two examination plans when they go to the hospital for examination. So, what is the difference between hysteroscopy and contrast imaging?

The difference between hysteroscopy and contrast imaging1

  1. Hysteroscopy, in layman's terms, is a probe with a mirror effect placed inside the female uterus. It has a visual and magnifying effect, observing the local area of the uterus and cervix through magnification to determine whether there is any disease in the cervix and uterus.

  2. Contrast surgery is mainly used for hysterosalpingography, which involves the diffusion of contrast agent injected into the uterine cavity and pelvic cavity through X-ray imaging to determine whether there are pelvic adhesions and whether the fallopian tubes are unobstructed. This type of examination mainly uses imaging to determine whether there may be lesions in the fallopian tubes and uterine cavity, which is the fundamental difference between the two types of examinations. Moreover, contrast examination is not as accurate and intuitive as direct observation under hysteroscopy.

  3. Some hysteroscopic medical devices have both examination functions and surgical operations, so certain gynecological diseases can be directly treated with surgery after examination, thereby reducing the damage to women's bodies during secondary hysteroscopic surgery. However, contrast imaging is usually only used for examination. Although it can also clear mild adhesions or mucus plugs in some fallopian tubes, sometimes the effect is not ideal.
