Should I have a side cut for vaginal delivery

If a woman is suitable for vaginal delivery in all aspects, doctors will recommend it. However, vaginal delivery may not be smooth, and some women may need to undergo a side cut, which has a certain impact on the body. Postpartum care should be more focused, but should a side cut be performed for vaginal delivery?

Vaginal delivery does not necessarily require a lateral incision. It can only be performed when necessary, mainly based on the woman's physical condition. If there is poor perineal elasticity, narrow vaginal opening, etc., the fetus is likely to tear during delivery. Therefore, a lateral incision is needed to protect the safety of the woman. If the fetal development is relatively large or there is an issue of fetal misalignment, it can be difficult to deliver, and this also requires a lateral incision for treatment.

For elderly mothers over 35 years old, or those with pregnancy complications, lateral resection should also be performed during delivery to reduce women's physical exertion and shorten the delivery process. If there are no issues with preoperative evaluation, women generally do not undergo lateral resection. If there are abnormalities, lateral resection should be performed, so women do not need to worry too much.

In order to avoid vaginal delivery, it is recommended that women engage in appropriate exercise to increase skin elasticity and enhance the stretchability of the perineum. Even if a side cut is needed, women don't need to be too nervous because the wound in the perineum can heal as long as proper postpartum care is taken, and sexual activity will not be affected afterwards.
