Pregnant women with high levels of bile acid require hospitalization

The development process of a fetus in the mother's body is very long, and during this process, the mother's body may undergo some changes. Some pregnant women may also suffer from some pregnancy diseases, such as high liver bile acid, which is a very common pregnancy disease. If the condition is severe and hospitalization is required, how high does the pregnant woman's bile acid need to be hospitalized?

Pregnant women with high levels of bile acid require hospitalization1

Under normal circumstances, the bile acid value should be maintained between 0.4 and 2.98mg/L. However, during pregnancy, due to various reasons, the physiological value of bile acid may be elevated. There is no standard value for how much hospitalization is required for high levels, as the gestational bile acid value will constantly change. Whether hospitalization is needed depends on the actual situation of the pregnant woman. Generally, pregnant women with normal liver function do not need hospitalization.

If a pregnant woman has a significantly higher bile acid value and abnormal liver function accompanied by jaundice symptoms, hospitalization may be necessary. Because high levels of bile acid can affect fetal health, the higher the bile acid value, the greater the impact on fetal health. To avoid affecting fetal development, pregnant women can consult a doctor to see if hospitalization is necessary.

The reason why high levels of liver bile acid are prone to occur during pregnancy is because the increase in progesterone levels during pregnancy can cause a decrease in gallbladder tension, leading to obstruction of bile excretion and varying degrees of bile stasis, ultimately resulting in high bile acid value. This situation usually occurs in the late stage of pregnancy, so pregnant women should undergo regular physical examinations after entering the late stage of pregnancy.
