There are more and more patients with diabetes. Although diabetes is not a major disease, if it is controlled in daily life and diet, diabetes patients can also live a normal life, and their health will be improved. So what should people with diabetes pay attention to in their life and diet?
1. Low sodium and high fiber diet
High sodium diet can increase blood volume, induce hypertension, increase heart burden, cause atherosclerosis, and aggravate complications of diabetes. Therefore, patients with diabetes should take a low sodium diet, and the daily amount of salt should be controlled within 3 grams. Soluble cellulose is beneficial for improving the metabolism of fat, cholesterol, and sugar, as well as reducing weight. It is recommended to eat more of these foods in moderation.
2. Limit starchy foods and avoid high sugar foods
Foods rich in starch (rice, flour, potatoes, beans, grains) are mainly broken down into carbohydrates after entering the human body. Although they are the main source of body heat, they must be limited because they can be directly converted into sugar. Otherwise, the condition will be uncontrollable. Diabetes patients should avoid sugar (white sugar, brown sugar, glucose, fruit sugar, maltose, milk sugar, chocolate, honey), sugar products (candied fruits, canned fruits, various sugary drinks, sugary cakes, jam, preserved fruit). Because these foods can lead to a rapid rise in blood sugar levels, directly exacerbate the disease and interfere with the treatment of diabetes. So, consumption must be prohibited.
3. Limit the intake of fats and proteins
Diabetes itself is the disorder of glucose, fat and protein metabolism caused by the absolute or relative insufficiency of insulin secretion. Because diabetes is easy to combine atherosclerosis and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to strictly limit the intake of high-fat and high cholesterol foods such as animal organs, egg yolks, fish roe, fatty meat, squid, shrimp, crab roe, etc., in order to avoid exacerbating lipid metabolism disorders and causing hyperlipidemia. Diabetes is easy to combine with diabetes nephropathy, and excessive intake of protein will increase the burden of the kidney. Therefore, the protein intake of diabetes patients should be moderate. The American diabetes Association recommends that the daily protein intake of diabetes patients should be limited to 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight.
4. Avoid spicy food
Diabetes patients tend to drink more food and drink more. Yin deficiency is the root and dryness and heat is the standard. Spicy food such as pepper, ginger, mustard, pepper, etc. is warm and hot, which easily consumes yin fluid and aggravates dryness and heat. Therefore, diabetes patients should avoid such condiments.
5. Stay away from smoking and alcohol
Alcohol has a pungent and hot nature, which can directly interfere with the body's energy metabolism and worsen the condition. While taking hypoglycemic drugs, drinking alcohol can cause a sudden drop in blood sugar, triggering hypoglycemia and affecting treatment. In addition, ethanol can accelerate the metabolism of hypoglycemic drugs, significantly shorten their half-life, and affect the efficacy of the drugs. Therefore, diabetes patients must abstain from alcohol.
6. Avoid excessive fatigue and stress
After a meal, the blood sugar rises. Slight exercise can break down the sugar in muscles, reduce blood sugar and insulin consumption. Diet control can limit the energy needed for a day. Exercise can consume excess calories in the body, which is very effective for diabetes. The skin of diabetics is susceptible to infection, so it is necessary to keep the skin clean and dry. Excessive exercise is very dangerous for diabetics, which can make the ketone body in the blood increase suddenly.
