The methods for calculating gestational age mainly include the following. Firstly, the gestational age is calculated based on the number of days of the last menstrual cycle. But this is more applicable to women with regular menstrual cycles of around 28 to 30 days. It needs to be counted from the first day of the last menstrual period, and the total number of days divided by seven is the number of weeks of pregnancy.

Secondly, the gestational age is calculated based on the timing of early pregnancy reactions and fetal movements. This method is more suitable for women with irregular menstruation or those who have not remembered the date of their last menstrual period, as well as for pregnant women who become pregnant directly after their postpartum period or miscarriage. These types of pregnant women can calculate their gestational age based on the timing of early pregnancy reactions or fetal movements.

Under normal circumstances, early pregnancy symptoms such as drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting may occur after about six weeks of amenorrhea. However, fetal movement will occur around 18 to 20 weeks after amenorrhea. For more experienced mothers, the timing of fetal movement can be advanced by about two weeks.
