During the development of an embryo, a gestational sac usually forms between 30 and 40 days of pregnancy. The appearance of a gestational sac helps to rule out the possibility of ectopic pregnancy. As the embryo continues to develop, a fetal bud will form between 40 and 50 days of pregnancy, and a fetal heart will further form between 50 and 60 days of pregnancy. Pregnant women can observe whether the fetal heart and bud have formed through ultrasound.

If a pregnant woman does not observe the formation of fetal buds and heart rate under ultrasound between 42 and 49 days of pregnancy, it is recommended not to be nervous yet, because some pregnant women may have irregular pregnancy cycles before conception, delayed ovulation time, or delayed implantation of fertilized eggs, which can lead to a relatively delayed appearance of fetal heart rate and fetal buds.

Therefore, expectant mothers can wait for another week or so before going to the hospital for a follow-up examination. If the fetal heart and fetal buds appear, it indicates that the embryo development is normal, but the fetal heart and fetal buds still have not appeared. The possibility of abnormal embryo development should be considered, and further examination should be conducted to determine. Once diagnosed with fetal arrest, the pregnancy should be terminated immediately.
