Can intellectual disability be detected through pregnancy tests

Female friends attach great importance to the development of the fetus during pregnancy and are very worried about any abnormalities in the baby, such as whether the child has deformities and how their intelligence is. When women undergo ultrasound examination during pregnancy, the vast majority of limb deformities can be detected. So, can a pregnancy test detect intellectual disability?

Can intellectual disability be detected through pregnancy tests1

Female friends undergoing pregnancy tests cannot detect fetal intellectual disability. Because this is a functional examination, it cannot be determined before the child is born. Pregnant women undergoing prenatal check ups can only determine whether there is a problem with the fetal body structure, but it cannot detect intellectual disability, which needs to be checked after the child is born.

Pregnant women can use other screening methods to indirectly determine whether the fetus may have intellectual disability, such as Down syndrome screening. This is an important examination item during pregnancy, which can detect whether the fetal chromosomes are abnormal. If the fetus has no chromosomal problems, the possibility of intellectual disability is relatively low.

Pregnant women undergoing ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging can to some extent determine whether there are abnormalities in the fetal brain structure. If abnormal brain structure is found, the fetus's intelligence is likely to have problems. If the cranial structure is normal, parents don't have to worry too much about the intelligence of the fetus.
