Can I have children if I am HPV positive

We all know that if high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) continues to infect the body, it can cause many diseases, and in some severe cases, it can also lead to cervical cancer, vaginal cancer, vulvar cancer, perianal cancer, and male penile cancer. Many people go for a prenatal check-up before preparing for pregnancy to check if both parties are suitable for having a child. So, can we have children if we are HPV positive?

Generally, if HPV positive is detected during the preparation stage, as long as it is confirmed that there are no precancerous lesions or cancerous symptoms of cervical cancer, normal preparation can be carried out. However, because everyone's physical fitness is different, whether or not to prepare for pregnancy still depends on the advice of a professional doctor. There are two main methods to determine whether there is a lesion or cancer in the cervix: TCT and HPV. If necessary, cervical conization and vaginal colposcopy biopsy can also be performed.

However, if tested positive for HPV, whether it is a cesarean section or a vaginal delivery, there is a risk of the baby being infected with HPV during delivery, mainly because the baby will pass through and come into contact with contaminated birth canal and amniotic fluid. However, some experts suggest that there is no need to worry about the risk of HPV infection in babies during vaginal delivery, so choosing a cesarean section is not necessary, as HPV infection cannot be completely avoided during cesarean section.

Most women are at risk of contracting HPV, but about 90% of these infected women can turn positive to negative within 1-2 years. Because there are still effective drugs that can completely eliminate HPV, both spouses must pay attention to personal hygiene in their daily lives.
