There are many methods to check for ectopic pregnancy, and blood HCG test is one of them that can assist in screening. If the blood HCG levels are consistently lower than those during normal pregnancy, it may indicate the possibility of ectopic pregnancy. However, reliable and accurate diagnosis requires the combination of ultrasound examination. So blood tests cannot determine whether it is an ectopic pregnancy.

B-ultrasound examination can clearly see the position, size, and shape of the gestational sac, as well as examine the embryo and fetal heart, which can determine whether it is a singleton pregnancy or a multiple pregnancy. It can also check whether it is a normal intrauterine pregnancy and exclude the possibility of abnormal pregnancy. Therefore, B-ultrasound examination is the most accurate and reliable method for diagnosing ectopic pregnancy.

Women in early pregnancy should go to the hospital for B-ultrasound examination around 5 weeks of pregnancy to rule out ectopic pregnancy as much as possible. If there are abnormal symptoms of ectopic pregnancy such as lower abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding, sudden fainting, shock, etc. in early pregnancy, seek medical attention immediately to investigate the cause. When an ectopic pregnancy ruptures, there may be tearing pain on one side of the lower abdomen, which may also be accompanied by significant vaginal bleeding. This is a critical situation that cannot be ignored.
