Can early pregnancy test strips detect molar pregnancy

In clinical practice, many women of childbearing age believe that abnormal pregnancy is an ectopic pregnancy. In fact, molar pregnancy is also an abnormal pregnancy. Like ectopic pregnancy, it poses a great threat to women's health and even affects fertility. Therefore, it is necessary to detect molar pregnancy as soon as possible. Therefore, some women have asked whether molar pregnancy test strips can detect it?

Can early pregnancy test strips detect molar pregnancy1

Early pregnancy test strips are used to detect the concentration of Hcg in a woman's urine to determine if she is pregnant. If the test result shows a positive result (i.e. both the control line and the test line show clear red lines), it can be confirmed as pregnancy. However, molar pregnancy is caused by abnormal proliferation of trophoblast cells in the placenta after fertilization of the egg, which leads to the secretion of Hcg hormone.

From this perspective, even if a woman is pregnant with a molar pregnancy, the results of early pregnancy test strips will still be positive. Early pregnancy test strips cannot detect whether there is a molar pregnancy. A molar pregnancy can be diagnosed through Hcg testing and B-ultrasound examination. If the Hcg concentration is found to be much higher than the normal gestational age, and there is no gestational sac in the uterine cavity, and the fetal bud and heartbeat do not appear normally on B-ultrasound examination, the diagnosis can be confirmed.

The occurrence of molar pregnancy is related to nutritional factors, infectious factors, endocrine disorders, poor egg development, and racial factors. Women may experience irregular vaginal bleeding (gradually increasing in small amounts), intermittent pain in the lower abdomen, uterine enlargement and softening, and severe vomiting after menopause. Once diagnosed with molar pregnancy, women need to undergo immediate curettage surgery for treatment.
