Birthmarks are patches that appear on the skin, and different types of birthmarks have their own characteristics, such as red, blue, black, or bluish gray birthmarks. Some female friends have birthmarks on their bodies, and when they become pregnant, they may also consider that the fetus may inherit such birthmarks. So, can birthmarks be inherited in the same location?
1. There are various types of birthmarks, some of which are hereditary, while others belong to acquired types. Birthmarks with genetic characteristics may appear in the same or near location. For example, coffee spot birthmarks are often related to genetics, and they are also a sign of multiple system diseases, such as multiple sunspot syndrome, neurofibromatosis, and ataxia telangiectasia.
2. Mongolian spots and Ota nevi are also common types of birthmarks. During embryonic development, melanocytes fail to reach the basal layer of the epidermis and instead remain in the dermis, leading to the formation of lesions. The Mongolian birthmark is related to genetics, but it may not necessarily be inherited in the same location.
3. Birthmarks on infants are more commonly found on the back, head, face, buttocks, and sacrum, while they are rarely seen on the limbs. Some birthmarks may grow deep in the subcutaneous tissue, making them difficult to detect, while others may appear on the surface of the skin. However, some baby birthmarks may disappear with age, but some may last a lifetime.
