Calculate the due date during ovulation period1

  1. How to calculate ovulation period

Ovulation is the process in which egg cells and surrounding granulosa cells are expelled together. The ovulation date for women is usually around 14-16 days before the next menstrual period. After being released from the ovary, the egg can survive in the fallopian tubes for 1-2 days to wait for fertilization; Male sperm can maintain fertilization ability in the female reproductive tract for 2-3 days, so sexual intercourse in the days before and after egg release is easier to conceive. For safety reasons, we refer to the first 5 days and last 4 days of ovulation, including ovulation day, as the ovulation period, which lasts for a total of 10 days.

  2. How to calculate the due date from ovulation period

The total gestation period of the fetus is 38 weeks, which is approximately 266 days. People say that having a baby in October is an approximate number. A woman's menstrual cycle is usually 28 days per cycle, but there are also periods of more than 30 days. So generally, starting from the first day of the last menstrual period, the safe period is from the first to the tenth day of menstruation, and it takes 3 to 4 days for the eggs to mature and be released. And the egg will survive for 24 hours when it is released from the ovary to the fallopian tube. If no sperm is encountered within 24 hours, it will die, while sperm will survive for 72 hours after entering the uterus. Menstruation will resume on the 14th day after the death of the egg. If we follow the concept of having a baby in October, which is 40 weeks, the 40 weeks include the 14 days from menstruation to egg maturation and release, and these 14 days are impossible to conceive. Therefore, the expected delivery date at 40 weeks should be reduced by 2 weeks, which is 14 days. The actual time the fetus stays in the uterus is around 38 weeks, which is approximately 265 to 268 days.

  3. Warm reminder

Pregnant women should take regular maternity leave during pregnancy to ensure that their bodies and the development of the fetus are in normal condition. They should use scientific methods to accurately determine the due date and make timely preparations for the delivery.
